Matcha + Vitamin & Minerals
Kyo's Matcha Whisk is made from natural bamboo, handcrafted and designed specifically for ceremonial-grade matcha.
A traditional bamboo whisk, or chasen, is the one tool that really changes your matcha. Its fine, flexible prongs break up every clump and work air through the tea, giving you a smooth, frothy cup that a spoon or milk frother can't quite match.
How to use it
- Soak first: dip the prongs in warm water for a minute to soften them. This helps prevent breakage.
- Whisk: add 1–2g of matcha and around 70ml of water at about 80°C to your bowl. Whisk briskly from the wrist in a “W” motion for 15–20 seconds until a fine foam forms.
- Finish: slow down and lift the whisk gently from the centre.
Caring for your whisk
- Rinse in warm water straight after use. No soap.
- Let it air-dry fully before putting it away, ideally on a whisk holder.
- Keep it out of the dishwasher and away from direct heat.

Smooth Texture
The fine bamboo tines properly suspend the matcha powder, preventing clumps and creating an even consistency.
Balanced Flavour
Proper aeration softens sharp edges and enhances the natural sweetness of ceremonial-grade matcha.
Correct Preparation
Matcha is not stirred — it is whisked. The chasen ensures the powder integrates fully with warm water.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes, if you want it smooth. A spoon will not properly suspend the powder and often leaves clumps. A bamboo whisk distributes the matcha evenly and improves texture.
-
A frother will mix the powder, but it does not create the same controlled texture as a chasen. For traditional preparation and better mouthfeel, a whisk is preferred.
-
With regular use and proper care, a whisk typically lasts 2–4 months. Longevity depends on frequency of use and how gently it is cleaned and stored.
-
Rinse with warm water immediately after use. Do not use soap. Shake off excess water and allow it to air dry fully.
-
Store upright in a dry place. Avoid keeping it in a sealed, damp container as moisture can weaken the bamboo.
-
UK orders typically arrive within 2–4 business days. Dispatched within 48 hours.
